Softwoods grow quickly in the Pacific Northwest. The shock of clearcuts when I first moved here slowly shifted as those forests regrew and then were logged again. Many of the clearcuts in this series are in a 5,000 acre county park, and proceeds from the timber sales are financing the land purchase—adding more layers of complexity, Landslides reshape this region as well, sometimes with deadly results. I find the visual chaos created by these actions—whether natural or man made—both disturbing and compelling.
